# LLM06: Excessive Agency ## Challenge Objective This challenge demonstrates how excessive permissions granted based on user prompts can lead to access control vulnerabilities, allowing users to perform unauthorized actions beyond their intended privileges. ## Solution - Access the LLM app and try to list out the files and find flag from the accessible folder As the utility poses that the users have access to only a certain directory and can only read the files and ask questions based on the file contents. User Prompt: {user_message} ''') ``` The above system prompt is used in the application to analyse the user's input and identify what action to be performed. The mistake that a developer might do is, they might overlook that the same system prompt above might even assign the value for `role` in `actionFormat` and the developer fails to verify it later while performing the box related actions. In the above challenge, the above system prompt is purposefully tweaked to make the challenge not a low hanging fruit and so the rules for the field `role` is given and users will have to guess more than saying `I'm an Admin`. ## Mitigation - The application should always determine user roles using non-LLM logic, ensuring that actions are performed strictly based on the assigned user role. - Developers must adhere to the principle of least privilege, configuring utilities with only the necessary permissions. For instance, if the LLM application is designed solely for listing files in a specified folder and answering questions about them, it should not have access to other folders or the ability to perform any unauthorized actions.
